England manager Roy Hodgson has given his opinion on Danny Welbeck’s deadline day £16m transfer from Manchester United to Arsenal on Monday.

Welbeck is part of Hodgson’s squad to play Norway in an international friendly on Wednesday and then Switzerland in a qualifier for Euro 2016 on September 8.

The forward has been signed by Arsene Wenger to try and cushion the blow of potentially losing Olivier Giroud until 2015 due to injury.

Welbeck has found opportunities difficult to come by at Old Trafford in recent times with both captain Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie previously ahead of him for a place in the starting XI.

This problem would have been exacerbated by the arrival of Radamel Falcao on-loan from AS Monaco and many think this was the right time for the Englishman to leave his boyhood club.

There will be just under a fortnight now until Welbeck can potentially make his debut for the Gunners due to the international break, with the first game back for the North Londoners being against Manchester City on September 13.
