Liverpool’s wonderkid Sterling has enjoyed a superb start to the Premier League season, scoring twice so far, and putting in a Man of the Match performance against Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
His most eye-catching moment was a stupendous run, in which he beat countless Spurs players, before finishing miserably straight at Hugo Lloris.
After the game, his manager Brendan Rodgers joked that the “run was like Ricky Villa and his finish was like Ricky Gervais,” but the 19-year-old, who has a child, admitted to not knowing who either of the Rickys were!
“I had to look him up and when I checked the name I was, “Oh, OK, that’s who it is.” When I was told what he said I didn’t even understand it. But I typed both names in so I know what he meant now,” said the England international.
While Sterling could perhaps be forgiven for not knowing who Ricky Villa is, not having heard of Ricky Gervais, arguably the most famous comedian in the world, is nothing short of criminal!
Sterling will now join up with the England squad, and is expected to face Norway in a friendly before the opening Euro 2016 qualification match away to Switzerland.
