Chelsea are set to reward goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois with a new contract, following his near seamless transition into English football.

The Blues are looking to secure the Belgian’s long term future this month, with the club eager to conclude discussions according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The 22-year-old’s contract still has two years left to run but talks over a new five-year deal have been ongoing for several weeks.

Courtois spent the first three years of his current deal on loan at Spanish side Atletico Madrid, helping them win the La Liga title and reach the Champions League final, while establishing himself as one of the world’s best goalkeepers.

He had been stalling on putting pen to paper on a new deal, as he awaited Jose Mourinho’s decision regarding whether or not he would be considered the number one stopper at Stamford Bridge during this campaign. Now that he has seemingly won that battle, his progress will see him earn a huge increase on his current £30,000-per-week wages.

Despite losing his status as the club’s first choice keeper, Petr Cech rejected the chance to move in the transfer window, instead electing to fight for his place.
