Man United have sent Uruguayan right-back Guillermo Varela to Real Madrid on a season long loan deal according to the club’s Official website.

The 21 year old has the distinction of being the first signing made by former boss David Moyes and was handed a five year deal after impressing the Scot but is still yet to feature for Man United’s senior side.

Varela follows Javier Hernandez to the Bernabeu though will initially be drafted into the club’s ‘B’ side.

A United statement said: “Manchester United’s Under-21 right-back Guillermo Varela has joined Real Madrid on loan for the remainder of the season.

“The Uruguayan, who was the first signing of David Moyes’ time in charge of the club, has moved to the Spanish capital to join Real’s Reserves side.

“Real confirmed the arrival of both the Uruguayan and Benjamin Kuscevic into the Castilla squad and both players will have the opportunity to work under French maestro Zinedine Zidane, who is the team’s coach.

“Varela will obtain experience playing in the Segunda Liga after being a regular in United’s Under-21s last term and also performing as part of a three-man defence for Warren Joyce’s men in the early part of this campaign.”
