The transfer window has now closed until the new year, but stories are emerging that some exciting deals almost went through for Premier League clubs that failed to reach the media in the final days of August…

According to German daily Bild (reported in the Express), Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United, as well as Juventus and Atletico Madrid, made bids for 23-year-old World Cup winner Christoph Kramer over the summer.

However, Bayer Leverkusen flatly refused to do business, and Kramer will instead remain on loan with fellow Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach for the season.

The player shot to prominence this summer after a surprise call-up to the Germany’s World Cup final starting lineup. Sadly for the player though, he didn’t last very long, as concussion meant he was substituted before half-time.

United could have badly done with an industrious midfielder with Kramer’s energy, but instead chose to sign superstar striker Falcao on loan on deadline day. Liverpool did raid the Bundesliga for a young defensive midfielder, but brought in Emre Can for £10m instead.
