Real Madrid star and World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed his desire to return to former club Manchester United before he finishes his career.

“I love Manchester,” he told the Daily Mail. “Everyone knows that — I have said it many times. Manchester is in my heart. I left many good friends there, the supporters are amazing and I wish I can come back one day.

“I am happy here in Real Madrid and have four more years, but in the future you never know because they treated me unbelievably there. I really did love being at Manchester United,’ he said.

“Believe me, they will be a good team again, I’m sure of it. It is a great club.”

Ronaldo was sold to Madrid for a then record £80m in 2009, having won three Premier League titles and the Champions League with United.

The Portuguese star has previously stated that Sir Alex Ferguson in the only manager he’s had that he would call a friend, and his lasting influence at the club helps prompt his desire to return.

United and Madrid have already done business this summer, with the Spanish giants selling the Old Trafford club Argentine winger Angel di Maria for a British record fee of £59.7m.
