Southampton are set to face renewed competition for the signature of Jay Rodriguez, with Tottenham Hotspur set to try and lure him to White Hart Lane in Janaury, the Daily Star reports.

Rodriguez is currently out injured with a cruciate knee injury he sustained earlier in the year. This injury also ruled him out of England’s squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The injury stopped Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino from bidding for the striker this summer, but the Argentine wants to sign the 25-year-old when he gets back to full fitness.

Rodriguez was impressive at St Mary’s last season, leading to him winning his first England cap in last year’s friendly against Chile at Wembley Stadium.

Pochettino knows all about the forward’s talents, having been Saints coach last year and would love to be reunited with him at White Hart Lane.

However, the South American could face competition for the striker’s signature with Liverpool also known to be monitoring the situation regarding Rodriguez’s fitness.

The Reds were interested in signing the England international earlier in the summer, but were put off over uncertainty surrounding his knee injury.
