Valdes is still a free agent after being released by the Catalan giants at the end of last season and he saw a move to Monaco fall through this summer after they expressed concerns over his long term fitness.

Talks have been underway for days over a deal, and now AS newspaper confirms an agreement has been reached on a contract, with Valdes set to undergo a medical before signing the contract.

Valdes has been suffering with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, which has kept him out of action since March, and Brendan Rodgers has ordered a series of thorough tests to ensure that he is up to the task.

The Reds have left enough space in their 25-man squad to accommodate the Spanish international, and would be able to wrap up a deal to sign him outside the transfer window as he is a free agent.

It’s thought that the Spain international has agreed a two-year contract and he will go head-to-head with first-choice Simon Mignolet to be the Reds’ regular shot-stopper.
