James Milner gets a lot of criticism on social media sites like Twitter. Some of it is deserved, while some of it isn’t. The flack Milner got for this howler of a pass for England is almost certainly deserved though.
Any footballer can misplace a pass. Steven Gerrard has done it on crucial occasions and he is one of the best players this country has produced. However, nothing looks more silly than trying to hit a 40 yard, diagonal pass and getting it horribly wrong like Milner has done here.
This pass sums up England’s dire display against the footballing power house of Norway. The Scandinavian side were the better team for much of the game and the Three Lions could only beat them through a Wayne Rooney penalty.
No wonder most people decided to stay in and watch Great British Bake Off instead of turning up at Wembley Stadium.
