The 27-year-old, who attracted a great deal of interest after some fine form in Serie A and with the Italian national team earlier this year, may still be available and on the radars of top clubs when the transfer window re-opens in January.

Both Arsenal and Spurs could do with further reinforcements in attack this winter, despite the Gunners spending a combined £51m on Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez and England striker Danny Welbeck this summer.

With Olivier Giroud out injured until January, Sanchez and other wingers such as Theo Walcott may be required to fill in upfront, meaning Arsene Wenger’s side will then be short of options in the wide areas, leading to some interest in signing Candreva if possible.

However, the in-form attacking midfielder will only be allowed to move for around £24m as he has four years remaining on his current contract at the Stadio Olimpico, putting Lazio under little pressure to let him go easily.

Candreva scored 12 goals from the flanks last season, the best tally of his career so far.
