Chelsea striker Diego Costa has withdrawn from Spain’s squad for Monday’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Macedonia due to a hamstring injury.

The Brazil-born frontman, who is the top scorer in this season’s Premier League with four goals in three games, has been replaced by uncapped Barcelona teenager Munir EL Haddadi.

Munir, 19, has only played once for Spain’s Under-21 side. He has featured in two La Liga matches for Barca, scoring once.

Costa was on the pitch for 67 minutes of Spain’s 1-0 defeat to France on Thursday night.

It was the 25-year-old’s fifth senior international appearance for Spain. He has yet to score for La Furia Roja.

Costa also failed to score in two senior friendlies for Brazil in 2013.

Chelsea will be keen for Costa to return to full fitness as soon as possible because the Blues have six games in 18 days later this month.
