The French midfielder, one of the most highly regarded talents in Europe, was strongly linked with both clubs for much of the summer transfer window, though a move away never materialised on that occasion.

Talks were also held with Serie A giants AS Roma, and PSG chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi has admitted that the 19-year-old is keen to leave the club in the near future.

A January move now looks likely and the Premier League could be his destination as both Arsenal and Chelsea remain keen on bringing in a new signing in midfield this season.

Rabiot is in the final year of his contract at the Parc des Princes and it seems likely that PSG will be ready to offload him for a reduced fee in the winter so as to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer.

With Rabiot now not part of Laurent Blanc’s squad for the Champions League, he will not be cup-tied in Europe either, which will appeal to a number of top clubs.
