Speaking with Argentine radio program America & Closs the former Benfica man pointed to problems in Madrid that he felt would not have been resolved had he stayed.

However, he hinted that he never actually wanted to leave the club, and that those left behind are quickly running out of patience.

“You never heard it from my mouth that I wanted to leave; I never said I wanted to leave Real Madrid,” he said.

“Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos, the club captains, know what I wanted and they supported me throughout.

“And I don’t know how much longer Ronaldo can put up with it at Madrid.”

Asked if Madrid President is a ‘difficult man’ to work with Di Maria had an interesting revelation:

“I don’t know, because I never had a long dialogue with him. He was never there for my contract extensions, so I don’t have much relationship with him.”

Di Maria also hinted that there was a strict breakdown in the relationship between himself and the club by saying; “On the day of the World Cup final, I received a letter from Real Madrid telling me not to play. I ripped it up, it was a horrible feeling, all the pressure that was being put on me.”

The whole interview (in Spanish) can be heard below.
