Red Devils ready to offer Juventus Juan Mata in exchange for Arturo Vidal.

The Arturo Vidal to Manchester United saga rumbles on, it would seem, with the Daily Star reporting that the Red Devils are ready to reignite their interest in the Chilean international midfielder come January by offering playmaker Juan Mata to the Turin giants in a part exchange deal, after the Spaniard was linked with a move to the Old Lady as the burning embers of the summer transfer window were extinguished.

Mata is reportedly keen on staying at Old Trafford, having only arrived at the club in January from Premier League rivals Chelsea, but the late window arrivals of superstars Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao could put the former Valencia man’s future at the club in doubt.

With di Maria preferring to operate in similar areas to Mata – attacking midfield and wide on the left – it could be hard for both to be accommodated in the same team, particularly if Louis van Gaal sticks with the 3-4-1-2 system that he has used so far this season.

Di Maria played well in central midfield in United’s last Premier League match, a 0-0 draw at Burnley, but he is more effective operating further forward and it seems likely that his long-term United future lies in that position.

Mata, meanwhile, was linked with a move to Juventus late in the transfer window and, despite their reluctance to sell the impressive Vidal, a target for United for much of the summer, the inclusion of Mata in any deal could yet sway them.
