Fantasy football managers have had their say on Wayne Rooney’s poor start to the season – with more players of the Sun’s Dream Team game picking Stoke City’s Mame Biram Diouf than the Manchester United captain.
Rooney scored on his first appearance of the season against Swansea City last month, but could not prevent his team falling to a 2-1 defeat. He then failed to find the net as Louis van Gaal’s side were held to draws by Sunderland and Burnley.
The 28-year-old did strike for England in their friendly against Norway, coverting a second-half penalty, but he was still criticised for his underwhelming performance.
Diouf, 26, was with Rooney at Old Trafford between 2009 and 2012, before moving to Germany for a successful spell with Hannover. He returned to England this summer, and score the winner in Stoke’s recent 1-0 win over Premier League champions Manchester City.
