The striker injured his hamstring during Spain’s match against France last week and officials at the Blues were worried that their new signing could be on the sidelines for several weeks.

The former Atletico Madrid front man has returned to Stamford Bridge where he will undergo some tests to determine how bad the injury is. It is thought that the knock isn’t as bad as first feared and shouldn’t present a problem to Jose Mourinho’s plans in the long term.

The London club are even hopeful that Costa could appear in the match against the Swans although Mourinho may decide to let the 25 year old recover completely before putting him back into the first team. He may be saved for next week’s Champions League clash against Schalke.

If Costa is not fit for the weekend game at Stamford Bridge, Didier Drogba or Loic Remy will be given an opportunity to impress in the Blues starting line-up.

Chelsea are the early front runners in this season’s Premier League title race, with last year’s third place finishers winning all three of their games so far.
