Ahead of the fixture CaughtOffside has picked out the ultimate starting XI of players from both teams.
GK – Keylor Navas
With Thibaut Courtois having returned to Chelsea after three years on-loan and Iker Casillas apparently on a one-man mission to destroy his own reputation, this new £7.9m goalkeeper takes the spot after his impressive past 12 months with Levante and Costa Rica.
RB – Juanfran
Although Daniel Carvajal is undeniably a supreme talent and will almost certainly be the first choice Spain right-back for years to come, for the time being we rate this more senior figure at a slightly better level than the 22-year-old.
CB – Sergio Ramos
Did not have a good 2014 World Cup campaign, but this defender is still among the finest in his position in world football and will play a key role for Los Blancos once again this term.
CB – Diego Godin
It was a toss up between this Uruguay international and his teammate Miranda for the other central defensive slot, but in the end we had to opt for Godin for his leadership abilities.
LB – Fabio Coentrao
Filipe Luis has also left for the Blues and Marcelo appears to have been exposed as a defensive liability, so it’s this Portuguese left-back who takes the spot in our XI.
