The German tactician has established himself as one of the most promising young coaches in the game in recent years, winning two Bundesliga titles with Dortmund and taking them to the 2013 Champions League final, where they were beaten 2-1 by Bayern Munich at Wembley.

Klopp’s fine work with Dortmund has seen him linked with other big clubs in the past, though he has remained with his current side for the time being, and looks set to do so for another four years at least.

However, sources close to the club are wary that he harbours ambitions of moving on at some point, and that United could be his preferred destination if he were to take charge of a Premier League team.

The Red Devils are currently in a period of transition after the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of the 2012/13 season, with Louis van Gaal coming in this summer after a disastrous campaign under David Moyes last term.

Klopp looks like a coach and a character with the qualities and personality to take a job as big as the one at United, and it would be no surprise to see him do so in the future.
