“I don’t think Real Madrid valued Di Maria as they did other players,” Rodriguez was quoted by Goal.
The Argentina international left the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu for Manchester United after losing his place in the Madrid starting XI following the arrivals of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez during the summer.
Meanwhile, ahead of the Madrid derby this weekend, Atletico captain Gabi thinks Los Blancos will miss di Maria because he was the player who caused the most amount of damage during the two sides previous encounters.
“The one who did the most damage when we played them was Di Maria, it was he who dictated the pace of the game,” he said to Cadena Cope.
“We have achieved things no-one thought possible, but the past is gone – now we must be judged by what we do this season.”
Gabi and Rodriguez aren’t the only players to question the club’s decision to sell the Argentine. Los Blancos star player, Cristiano Ronaldo, criticised his club for letting di Maria and Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso leave.
”If I was in charge, maybe I would have done things differently,” said the 29 year old, who has been linked with a move away from the Spanish capital in recent days.
