Falcao’s switch to the 20-time league champions was the shock of the summer after speculation had linked him with moves to Real Madrid and Manchester City for most of the transfer window.

The Colombian is now set to make his United debut in their Premier League match against QPR at the weekend.

In his first press conference as a Red Devil, Falcao admitted that he would like to stay with his new club permanently and will do his best to impress manager Louis van Gaal.

“This is a new process and a new team for United,” the 28-year-old was quoted by the Daily Express.

“This year a lot of new players have arrived and I think the club is building a big team for this season and for the future.

“I would like to stay here and play a part in this project.”

The signing of the former Atletico Madrid man capped a huge summer of spending from van Gaal, with the Dutchman also breaking the British record transfer in bringing Angel di Maria to the Theatre of Dreams for £59.7 million.
