Wellington Phoenix are close to completing the signing of Michael McGlinchey after Central Coast Mariners announced it had reached an agreement with the Kiwi international to mutually terminate his contract at the club.

As part of the deal, McGlinchey will compensate the Mariners for the early termination of his deal.

Phoenix general manager David Dome was ecstatic with the agreement and said a contract between the New Zealand club and McGlinchey had been sent off to Football Federation Australia to be finalised.

“Following on from the announcement last night from the Central Coast Mariners on a mutual termination with Michael McGlinchey, Wellington Phoenix has submitted a contract for the player which is subject to approval by FFA and FIFA,” Dome said.

“The club is thrilled that that the way has been cleared for the player to sign for the Phoenix.

“With Michael’s addition the quality of the squad Ernie has assembled is without parallel in the history of this club.

“With this closure and our squad now full, everyone at the club cannot wait for the season to start”
