The 25-year-old has been targeted by big names such as Arsenal, Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid in recent times, and is likely to attract even more interest next summer as a £20m release clause looks set to come into effect.

Chelsea are already planning for next year and could be interested in joining the running to sign Reus as they face increased interest in one of their own stars, Eden Hazard, who has been linked with Real Madrid as one of a number of possible replacements for Cristiano Ronaldo, who in turn has been linked with a return to Manchester United.

Reus could be an ideal like-for-like replacement for Hazard, as he plays in a similar inverted winger role for his current club Dortmund, and he could also provide another option upfront as veteran forward Didier Drogba is unlikely to still be part of the first-team setup next term.

With Jose Mourinho recently stressing the importance for the Blues to keep up with Financial Fair Play and sell before they can buy, it would make sense for the club to sell Hazard for around £60m, as is being suggested, and replace him with a player almost exactly £40m cheaper.

Chelsea will no doubt face plenty of competition for Reus’ signature, but will surely prove one of the more tempting options for the talented attacker.
