Johnson, who has missed recent Liverpool and England games through injury and could well have lost his place to young Atletico Madrid loanee Javier Manquillo, has been the target of significant criticism as a result of his displays for both club and country, with the former Chelsea man seen as particularly easy to exploit for opposition sides.

If Brendan Rodgers does decide that Manquillo, along with accademy graduate Jon Flanagan, also currrently injured, are enough for the Reds in the right back position then they could allow Johnson to leave in January, with AS Roma emerging as shock favourites for his signature.

Rudi Garcia currently has experienced Brazilian Maicon as his first choice right back but, with the former Manchester City man not getting any younger, Johnson would be a more long term solution and has the impressive attacking ability that former Lille manager Garcia is known to demand from his full backs.
