The Blues take on Schalke in their first game of the European campaign on Wednesday, with Sporting Lisbon and Maribor set to face the 2011/2012 winners later on in the group stages.

Although his side are favourites to qualify from Group G, Mourinho insists all of the teams in the group will give Chelsea a good game.

“The group is more difficult than people think,” he told reporters at a press conference.

“It’s not because I’m Portuguese, but the Portuguese teams are always very difficult. The Portuguese league is not a strong league, but the three top teams are very strong.

“The Germans are the Germans and Schalke improved a lot in relation to last season.

“So without speaking about Maribor because I haven’t analysed them yet because they are the last team that we play against, our group is hard.”

Mourinho’s side reached the semi finals of last season’s competition before being beaten by Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid 3-1 on aggregate.

Chelsea have started the season in excellent form, winning all four of their Premier League matches. On Saturday, they beat Swansea 4-2 thanks to a hat trick from summer signing Diego Costa.
