QPR defender and former Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand has labelled Chelsea skipper John Terry an idiot regarding the racism charge brought against the legendary centre-back in 2011.

The FA ruled Terry had racially abused Anton Ferdinand, the brother of Rio, calling him a “******* black ****,” and the Englishman was stripped of his national team captaincy as a result.

“He never apologised to me or to Anton. And he has never hinted that he has ever had a moment of understanding over the damage his stupidity had inflicted on everyone,” Ferdinand said, reported in the Sunday Sun.

“For me, the biggest idiot will always be John Terry. As England captain and my centre-back partner he could have saved everyone a lot of pain by admitting immediately he used the word in the heat of the moment, but was not racist.

“I think that’s probably what happened and what the truth is. Anton and I would’ve accepted that – instead he never gave us a chance.

“That was the betrayal. He tried to run away from what he had done.”

Ferdinand and Terry were centre-back partners for England, but the pair are now no longer on speaking terms following the incident.

As a result, Terry has been a much hated figure in the media and on the terraces, and he arguably hasn’t been given the praise his superb performances in recent seasons have warranted.

In complete opposite, Ferdinand’s playing career has took a downward spiral – joining QPR after Man United released him as he became an increasing defensive liability. However, his forages into the media and punditry have been met largely with praise.
