The Colombian forward is currently on loan from French side AS Monaco, but believes that his deal will become a permanent one next summer. According to the Daily Mail, Falcao wants to follow in the footsteps of Sir Bobby Charlton, George Best and the rest in achieving idol status at the club.

Falcao signed for Louis van Gaal’s side on transfer deadline day, with a long-term switch thought to be in the pipeline, form and fitness permitting. Although the 28-year-old’s first task will be to fire United back to Champions League football.

“I will fight to stay here to play many years for Manchester United, I want to make my mark here, I would like to be a legend at this club,” he said, speaking ahead of United’s game with QPR, for which he was named on the bench because of jetlag.

He continues to admit that he knows he has a fight on his hands to get into the team with Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie also available, but claims he turned down others to join United, despite their lack of European football.

“I refused another club with Champions League for this club. I am so excited, I always worked to arrive at a club like this.”
