Chelsea captain John Terry put Swansea ahead in the first half. The former England skipper has now scored three Premier League own goals, equalling an unwanted club record also held by Steve Clarke, Michael Duberry and Frank Sinclair.

Hat-trick hero Costa became just the second player ever to score in each of his first four Premier League matches. Micky Quinn was the first.

Costa is the first player to score seven goals in his first four Prem appearances. The previous record was six goals, achieved by Quinn and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.

Cesc Fabregas, who set up two of Costa’s goals, is the first player in Premier League history to provide an assist in six consecutive matches (two of those games were during his Arsenal career).
