Emirates Stadium side edge closer to stellar signing.
Real Madrid keeper Iker Casillas is ready to leave the Bernabeu according to a report on French website Le10Sport, news that has alerted chief suitors Arsenal.
The experienced Bernabeu custodian spent much of the past two seasons warming the bench with Diego Lopez, now at AC Milan, taking the starting spot. However this season Carlo Ancelotti has used the 33 year old exclusively but arguably the Real Madrid captained has not impressed.
Casillas kept a clean sheet in Real’s opening La Liga win over Cordoba but has conceded seven goals in the following three domestic and Champions League fixtures.
Ancelotti may be ready to hand the starting spot to summer signing Keylor Navas and Casillas, into the final year of his contract, may leave in January so as to offer Real a chance to bring a sum for his services.
It’s not instantly obvious as to how the World Cup winner would fit into Arsene Wenger’s plans, after all the north London side signed Colombian David Ospina to challenge first choice keeper Wojciech Szcz?sny though perhaps the French boss values Casillas above both players.
