PSG paid Napoli £55m for the powerful marksman last summer but Cavani is unhappy playing second fiddle to Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

One imagines the cash rich Ligue 1 side wouldn’t accept any fee below that which they paid for Cavani, not least as despite his apparent unhappiness the striker has netted 27 goals in 47 appearances for PSG.

Prior to his move to the French capital Cavani scored 141 goals in spells for Palermo and Napoli and has the physique to make himself a real handful in the Premier League.

Wenger’s interest in further attacking options could well be fueled by the long term injury suffered by Olivier Giroud, and the lack of experience the likes of Joel Campbell and Yaya Sanogo possess.

Arsenal fans would no doubt prefer such a move to occur in January but that seems unlikely, not least Cavani would be ruled out of any Champions League action.

A move to bring in Cavani would require Arsenal to once again smash their transfer record fee and if the north London club fail to secure a major trophy this season then perhaps the chances of such an outlay will increase.
