White Hart Lane side chase Old Trafford duo.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will be backed to make additions to his squad in January, just so long as they are still in contention for a coveted top four spot, and the White Hart Lane side will make an offer for two Man United players who may well be deemed surplus to requirements by Louis van Gaal.

The Old Trafford manager has already started to conduct a major clear-out as he seeks to put a stamp on the squad he inherited from David Moyes and White Hart Lane chairman Daniel Levy feels that Man United may be willing to offload players on the cheap in order to balance the books given the financial burden of failing to secure a Champions League berth.

Pochettino will look to lure Belgian midfield powerhouse Marouane Fellaini and misfit winger Ashley Young and Levy will sanction an opening offer of £24m for the pair.

Aaron Lennon appears likely to be offloaded and Andros Townsend has struggled with form and fitness over the past year and whilst Nacer Chadli has greatly improved this term Pochettino wants to bring in 29 year old England international Young to boost his wide-attacking options.

The arrival of Angel di Maria may well prove the death knell to Young’s hit and miss spell at Man United and Tottenham are willing to meet the former Aston Villa man’s current wage expectations and offer the regular first team action that is likely to be out of his reach under van Gaal.

Mauricio Pochettino will also offer Fellaini the chance to rejuvenate his career after a tough first season at Man United, with the Argentine manager having sold Sandro to QPR and loaned Lewis Holtby to Hamburg.

The north London side have not used Paulinho in Premier League action whatsoever whilst Moussa Dembele has started just one of Tottenham’s four Premier League fixtures this season.

Pochettino will look to use Fellaini in a similar combative attack minded midfield role rather than the holding spot Moyes placed the 25 year old last season.
