The Kenyan international was linked with a move to the Emirates last summer but decided on a move to St Mary’s instead.

Wanyama has been progressing well with the Saints, meaning Arsene Wenger may now try and land the defensive midfielder in the new year.

The Frenchman didn’t sign a holding midfielder during the summer, and that has proved to be an error in judgement as the Gunners badly need reinforcements in that position.

Wenger’s folly was shown up against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night when the Gunners lost 2-0 and put in a pathetic display.

The main problem with the performance was that Arsenal lacked a midfielder to control the game and stop opposition attacks. The German side were able to dance through Wenger’s midfield with ease.

Although Wanyama certainly isn’t the finished article, he could become a top midfielder, and as he is still young, so Wenger could mold him into the player he needs like he did with Patrick Viera.

The former Celtic man would reportedly be interested in a move to the Emirates and could cost the Gunners £15 million.
