City defender hits out at his old manager.Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis has launched a scathing attack on Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, the Independent reports.
The Argentine, who joined City from Atletico Madrid last summer, spent much of his earlier career in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich, where he briefly worked under the management of the controversial van Gaal.
The Dutchman is known to have fallen out with a few senior players in his career so far, and it would appear that Demichelis was one of them, with the 33-year-old seemingly still bitter about his time at the club.
Having been an important player for Bayern and a self-proclaimed fan of the club, Demichelis then fell out of the first-team reckoning under the now-United boss, before eventually being offloaded to La Liga side Malaga.
“I achieved a great deal at Munich,” he explained. “I used my strengths to win a place in the first team.
“I became a fan of the club. I felt like a favourite son. But from the first moment Van Gaal arrived at Bayern the place began to stink.”
Bayern won the Bundesliga and German domestic cup in van Gaal’s first season at the club, as well as losing the Champions League final to Inter Milan, though he continues to divide critics everywhere he goes, with mixed levels of success with each of the teams he has worked with.
Van Gaal only took over at United this season, after coaching the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup.
