Watford can move into automatic promotion spot if they can defeat an unpredictable Bournemouth team on Saturday lunchtime. A victory would take the Hornets top of the Championship table, if only until Nottingham Forest and Norwich City play later.
Oscar Garcia’s side are currently two points off top spot in third, while there opponents are down in 15th position – with eight points from their seven games. However, the Cherries are more than capable of an upset if they can find their best form.
However, Watford boss Oscar Garcia, who left hospital yesterday, will not attend the game. The 41-year-old Spaniard was admitted to hospital on Sunday with minor chest pains and has undergone tests since.
The Hornets will also be without captain Troy Deeney, who faces a few weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. Fernando Forestieri (hamstring) and Gianni Munari (hamstring) are fit to play but Keith Andrews (calf) is out.
Loan signing Artur Boruc is likely to make his debut in goal for Bournemouth after joining from Southampton earlier this week. Midfielder Dan Gosling faces a fitness check after turning his ankle, striker Tokelo Rantie is set to miss out but Marc Pugh, Charlie Daniels and Eunan O’Kane are hoping for recalls.
Watford have won five of the last six meetings in all competitions, drawing one. Bournemouth’s last win was 1-0 at Vicarage Road in the old Division Two in March 1997.
The have also won the last four meetings at Vicarage Road in all competitions, including a 6-1 win in the league last season, but the last match played between the two sides ended in a 1-1 draw.
