The north London side published record levels of ‘free’ cash sitting in their coffers with Arsenal having £173m in the bank, of which Wenger has the aformentioned £30m to use when the transfer window re-opens with this source identifying three targets on the Emirates Stadium radar.

Seemingly the lack of out and out defensive midfield options has led to two relevant targets appearing on Wenger’s wish-list with Sporting Lisbon youngster William Carvalho and Real Madrid star Sami Khedira two players who could be the recipient of bids in January.

Of the pair Khedira would presumably be cheaper, the 27 year old being into the final year of his contract, and is player with plenty of top tier experience.

Another Bernabeu player makes up this trio of wanted players, that being keeper Iker Casillas, who has won back his spot as first choice starter this season but has come in for a fair amount of criticism.

Interest in Casillas is perhaps a little odd given that Pole Wojciech Szcz?sny has been in decent form and the fact Wenger has already signed Colombian World Cup hero David Ospina to boost his options between the sticks.
