Anfield side chase Bernabeu ace.

Liverpool are reportedly hopeful of signing Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema though a move to do so is apparently more likely next summer rather than in January according to the Metro.

Though the 26 year old has recently signed a new five year contract he is said to be unsettled and Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to further strengthen his attack, even after the signings of Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli over the summer.

Benzema is seemingly not all that happy with the presence of Javier Hernandez at the club, the Man United man moving to the Bernabeu on a loan deal, and has managed just two goals in eight games thus far this season.

Chicharito netted twice on Saturday after coming on as a sub against Deportivo La Coruna and that will add further pressure on Benzema.

Liverpool are ready to wait until next summer before making their move though one imagines any offer would have to be fairly hefty given Benzema’s contractual situation.

Rodgers has seen his side lose three of their opening five Premier League fixtures and Balotelli and Lambert are still yet to net for their new club.

Benzema had a superb season last term, netting 24 goals in all competitions.
