Winter tweeted that Ozil had impressed in a more central role in the 3-0 win at Villa Park yesterday, revealing that the German international had specifically asked his manager not to be used out wide after a difficult start to the season and some indifferent form on the flanks.

Ozil picked up a goal and an assist in a superb four-minute spell in which the Gunners scored three times to stun Villa and pick up only their second win of the season after three consecutive draws in the Premier League.

The former Real Madrid man will now be hoping to pick up and find his best form as Arsenal look to work their way back into the title race for this season, with his form likely to be a pivotal factor if he can get back to his best.

Ozil moved to the Emirates Stadium for a club-record £42.5m on transfer deadline day last summer.
