Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas will leave the Bernabeu next summer according to Spanish source Cuatro.

The 33 year old custodian has fought his way back into the Real Madrid starting eleven after spending the past 18 months warming the bench, bar Champions League run-outs, but is seemingly still set to leave the Spanish giants when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Arsenal are known to be keen on the Spanish international and Arsene Wenger may see the World Cup winner as a player who can challenge Wojciech Szcz?sny for the Gunners’s starting spot, though the north London side did bring in Colombian David Ospina from Nice over the summer to replace outgoing Pole Lukasz Fabianski.

Casillas has at points in his illustrious career been considered one of the best in the business though it perhaps not quite at the heights he has previously reached.

Thus far this term Casillas has conceded nine goals in five La Liga and Champions League fixtures this term and may feel the time is right to consider a fresh challenge having represented his hometown club since the age of nine.

Carlo Ancelotti has seemingly already planned for the likely exit of Casillas by bringing in Costa Rican World Cup hero Keylor Navas.
