Manchester United could call off their big money move for Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo in order to avoid upsetting current stars Wayne Rooney, Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao, the Daily Star reports.

The Portuguese star has been heavily linked with a return to Old Trafford in recent weeks.

Reports have suggested that the Champions League winner is fed up with life at the Santiago Bernabeu and is angry at the club’s decision to sell stars Xabi Alonso and Di Maria during the summer.

While United’s top chiefs want the star to return and their commercial department are ready to make the most out of re-signing one of the biggest stars in the world, Ronaldo’s return may upset some of the Red Devils current stars because of the 29 year old’s wage demands.

The Portuguese forward is set to demand £300,000 a week in wages, something United are unwilling to pay.

If the 20 time league champions did give in to Ronaldo’s demands, that would almost certainly upset their other high earning stars.

That, coupled with the £60 million United would need to pay Real Madrid to get the forward back to Old Trafford, means Louis van Gaal may decide to end his pursuit of the former Sporting Lisbon star and instead focus on strengthening his squad in other areas.
