The 36-year-old is off to embark on a new adventure with MLS expansion team New York City FC in the new year, but for the time being he is plying his trade at Manchester City – the American side’s associate club.

And the ex-England star opened his account for the Premier League champions on Sunday by scoring against his old side after coming off the bench.

Chelsea captain John Terry took to Instagram after the game on Sunday night to pay tribute to the legendary midfielder.

“It felt strange playing against Lamps today and seeing him in a Man City shirt,Unbelievable reception the Chelsea fans gave to a true Legend today that has Chelsea in is heart forever, I really hope Lamps gets the opportunity to receive that reception at the Bridge one day. Good point today that keeps us 3 points clear at the top of the premier league,” he said.
