Ozil hits back at his critics after fine display at Aston Villa.

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has hit back at his critics both with his words as well as his performances, report the Daily Star, with the German international midfielder having described the recent criticism of his performances for the Gunners as “strange” after he put in a man of the match display during his side’s 3-0 victory at Aston Villa at the weekend.

Ozil came under fire for his mediocre displays at the start of the season, particularly in recent matches against Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund, but the German was able to confound those critics somewhat at Villa Park having been moved back in to his preferred position in the centre, having been utilised more often on the wing of late.

The former Real Madrid man also said that it was a phenomenon he had also experienced during his time playing in the Bundesliga and La Liga, clearly hinting that he feels as though he gets more than his fair share of stick:

I have the feeling that I am criticised more, that happened to me in the Bundesliga and also at Real Madrid.”

Ozil also implored Gunners fans to give both him and the team time to work out an understanding and for new signings including Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez to bed in, with the side likely to get better the longer the season goes on and the better the understanding developed by their attacking talents is.
