Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was angered by England’s treatment of Sturridge after the forward picked up a thigh injury on international duty, and the Anfield club haven’t picked up a single Premier League point in his absence.

Sterling has been one of the club’s brighter stars during Sturridge’s absence, and gave a good account of himself in the club’s surprise defeat to West Ham this weekend. However, Sterling believes the Reds are badly missing Sturridge’s golden touch and his return will give the side a much needed boost.

“Daniel is a massive miss for us with his goals and the way he plays in behind defenders,” he said.

“Him coming back should add another dimension to the team. It will definitely be a test of character but I think there is a lot of character in this group.”
