Phil Neville claims United must spend lavishly…
Manchester United legend Phil Neville reckons his former side need to spend another gargantuan amount of money in the transfer market before they can get close to winning the Premier League again.
“I know United have spent £150m,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“I think there’s another two transfer windows of similar amounts of money needed – maybe £100m – before they can even think about winning the title.”
Here’s five players, who would likely cost £100m in total, who could put Louis van Gaal’s squad in title winning contention.
5) Mats Hummels – Borussia Dortmund – Likely cost – £35m
Everybody in football knows it – United are defensively inept. Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Tyler Blackett are just not good enough to realistically get United back to where they belong. Hummels though, certainly is. The World Cup winner is one of the best centre-backs on the planet, and his composure on the ball and aerial presence would boost the Red Devils tenfold.
