The New York Giants travel to FedEx Field for Thursday Night Football in Week 4 as they take on an injury-hit Washington Redskins with both teams looking to move to 2-2 for the season.
It’s a quick turnaround for both these teams after playing on Sunday, but the NFC East rivals will need to be fully recovered and focused in order to improve on their 1-2 records and avoid falling to bottom place in the division.
The hosts will rue the fact that their roster is banged up, with DeAngelo Hall and Duke Ihenacho lost for the season, while Brian Orakpo and Jason Hatcher are doubts.
Washington held a walkthrough on Monday and listed 17 players, a third of their roster, on the injury report. Coach Jay Gruden conceded that this is a week in which he would rather not have a Thursday game, but ultimately he has no choice ahead of a crunch encounter.
After winning their first game of the season on Sunday, a 30-17 victory over the Houston Texans, the Giants appear to be healthier but not necessarily more confident of the win after some indifferent performances.
Rashad Jennings gained a career-high 176 yards rushing over the weekend while quarterback Eli Manning had his most efficient game of the season so far completing 21 of 28 passes for 234 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.
Receiver Victor Cruz had five catches for 107 yards and ended a 12-game drought without a touchdown, while Manning avoided an interception for the first time in eight games.
Odell Beckham Jr. is expected to make his debut for the visitors after recovering from a hamstring injury, but it will also be on the defensive unit to limit Kirk Cousins.
Although Washington have lost four straight games when the quarterback has started, he appears to be a better fit for the Gruden offense, and along with Pierre Garcon, they are capable of taking the game away from the Giants.
New York have won six of the last eight meetings at Washington, and it could well be a seventh win in nine by Friday morning.
