Jose Mourinho signed the left-back from Atletico Madrid during the summer transfer window, but the Spaniard is yet to cement a place in the team due to his Portuguese manager preferring to play right-back Cesar Azpilicueta on the left.

“When I came here, I spoke with Mourinho and I knew I’d come to Chelsea to be a champion,” he said.

“It’s brilliant to be at this club, it’s a great feeling. Every time I play and train, I feel I’m at a big club.”

“The team are doing a great job. We won the first four League games and drew the fifth one. I have nothing to complain about.”

“I have to wait for my chance and when it comes I must make sure I don’t go out of the first 11.”

He will be hoping he doesn’t have to wait too long for an extended run in the team, and although the 29-year-old is maintaining his professionalism for the moment, he didn’t sign for Chelsea in order to sit on the bench.

The old expression “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” applies here, with Chelsea atop the league and looking like champions already, it’s hard for Mourinho to justify switching things around and dropping players.
