Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger looks to be bringing in another star to add to his growing British core.

Arsene Wenger has been building a British core at Arsenal for a while now, and he looks set to continue that trend with Leeds defender Sam Byram.

Having won the young player of the year award in the 2012/13 season, Byram attracted a fair amount of interest from top flight clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool, and Southampton.

The young right-back was plagued by injury last season however, which seemed to cool the interest. Arsene Wenger looks to still be chasing the player however, with the French manager needing back up in the full-back department.

20-year-old Byram has already made 69 appearances for Leeds, and is looking like a fantastic prospect; but is he anywhere near ready to make the step up from the Championship to the Premier League?

Although he is currently injured, Mathieu Debuchy is undoubtedly Arsenal’s first choice right-back. Calum Chambers may currently be the preferred second choice, but with such little cover at centre-back it is a huge risk to play the summer signing simultaneously alongside Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.

Hector Bellerin has been given a handful of senior appearances so far this season, and he looks like the biggest competition to Byram if he were to join the Gunners. Then of course there is Carl Jenkinson who will eventually return from West Ham when his loan expires.

Is there a place for Byram at Arsenal?
