Old Trafford side target Nou Camp wide-man.
Man United boss Louis van Gaal is readying a January bid for Barcelona star Dani Alves as he seeks to improve his Old Trafford squad.
The experienced Brazilian is into the final year of his Nou Camp contract and is said to be open to a fresh challenge and the Old Trafford side are willing to meet the 31 year old’s high wage demands.
Van Gaal is keen to bring in a strong right-back signing having been unconvinced by the likes of Rafael and Chris Smalling in the role and though a move for Alves isn’t a long term solution to the problem area it’s a move he wishes to make in order to assist the club’s pursuit of a top four finish.
Man United’s owners are ready to hand van Gaal a big January transfer fund boost to help secure a return to Champions League action next term and believe that the appeal of working under the acclaimed manager will aid in the club’s pursuit of top talents.
Alves is into his seventh season at Barcelona but as yet has not been offered a new contract, which may lead the former Sevilla man to feel unwanted by new boss Luis Enrique.
The attack minded wing-back has four La Liga titles and two Champions League winners medals to his name from his spell at the Calatan giants and is a player of undoubted quality who could help van Gaal has he continues to improve his leaky defence.
Man United are ready to offer as much as €15m (£11m) for the right-back, a bid that would be hard to refuse given the likely free transfer departure that would await Alves next summer.
