The White Hart Lane side have scouted the 21 year old exensively this season and will have been impressed with his efforts for his Mestalla side, showing form that has led to a call-up to Vicente del Bosque’s Spanish national team set-up.

Alcacer netted 16 goals in all competitions last term and has already registered four goals in five La Liga fixtures this term, whilst also scoring on his competitive national team debut against Macedonia.

The starlet striker has a very modest £15m release clause written into his contract, a clause that many sides are sure to be looking to trigger, with Pochettino keen to strengthen his attack in January.

Tottenham’s attackers Emmanuel Adebayor, Roberto Soldado, Harry Kane and Erik Lamela have scored just one Premier League goal between them this season so one can see why Pochettino would be looking out for potential additions.

Arsenal and Chelsea are also tracking Alcacer with Valencia’s billionaire owner Peter Lim keen to tie down the locally born forward to a long term deal.
