Brendan Rodgers has sent scouts to monitor the Argentine international who has also attracted the attention of representatives of Man United, AC Milan, Hamburg and AS Monaco.

Salvio’s Primeira Liga employers have slapped a fairly inflated £34m valuation on the 24 year old which may well lead to Liverpool looking elsewhere.

Liverpool raided Benfica over the summer when they brought in Serbian youngster Lazar Markovic and given the high level of expenditure made by the Merseyside club over the summer one wonders if the Anfield side would be willing to spend large sums on further options to boost their attack.

Rodgers has seen his side start the current campaign in stuttering fashion and arguably his summer signings have failed to impress whilst Luis Suarez, as expected, has been missed.
