The Frenchman has been suffering with an ongoing achilles tendon problem, and it apparently flared up during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham over the weekend.

This news only adds to the Gunners’ injury woes, with Aaron Ramsey, Mikel Arteta, and Jack Wilshere also ruled out with numerous different issues.

Arsene Wenger may have wanted to rest Koscielny anyway, with Calum Chambers moving to centre-back and young Hector Bellerin getting his second Champions League call-up at right-back.

After a crushing loss against Borussia Dortmund in their first match, this is a game Arsenal have to win no matter what.

With the London side’s squad already looking threadbare this year, the weekend’s injuries have left the manager with very little option in terms of who he field.

Arsenal’s biggest strength was seen as the midfield, but losing three players in one go has certainly changed that. In stark contrast centre-back was a position that sorely needed strengthening this summer, and now one injury has shown just how dire that need was.
