Giroud turned 28 today (Tuesday) and is currently sidelined with an ankle injury that has ruled him out until the new year with Arsene Wenger perhaps hopeful that the offer of a new deal will give the powerful striker renewed optimism that could perhaps speed up his recovery.

Giroud is something of a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium and despite his obvious flaws the big Arsenal man always gives 100% and has a decent strike record for the north London club.

Arsenal paid £12m for Giroud back in June 2012 and he has since racked up 41 goals in 102 appearances though the arrivals of Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck over the summer may leave the former Montpellier man concerned about his chances of a regular first team spot.

The deal is said to see Giroud net £80k a week and he becomes the latest player to sign a new long term deal following team-mates Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny, Tomas Rosicky and Santi Cazorla.
